Turab: i. Sandstorm ii. Behind The Black Veil
More than a decade separated the composition of  "Sandstorm" - the instrumental first section of"Turab" and "Behind The Black Veil".  I had written "Behind The Black Veil" in the lead up to the first Gulf War in 1990, with a sense of dread about what the country was embarking upon.  Fast forward to 2003 and the first images of the invasion of Iraq.  There was a terrible sandstorm that some of our troops were caught in during one of the initial battles.  The Arabic word they used for this storm was Turab and it provided the inspiration for the tone poem.  When Steve and I were putting the album together, the two pieces seemed to fit together not only musically, but thematically.  Sad to say, those two wars are not over after all this time.

The mountain top's view is trapped in a blindfold of gauze"

"Walk Without A Shadow" is a collection of songs I selected from some twenty years of material - recorded in New York while I was performing in "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway. Produced and arranged with Steve Lavner, "Walk Without A Shadow" reflects my A.D.D. temperament and reaches across the spectrum of rock, country and folk. Special guest Nick Jameson (Foghat, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Butterfield) lends his platinum-record producing skills on "Comin' Back Ain't Comin' Back" along with guitar and bass and Megan Lavner provides backup vocals on "Turn Away". Some of the tracks were recorded alone in my apartment in NYC ("If Only We Could Dance" & "Pretty Pass") but the rest of the New York tracks were recorded out in Jersey in Steve's attic - the Record Plant it was not. We recorded "Montauk Point" the day of the 2003 New York Blackout and weren't quite sure that all the files had been saved when the lights went out - yikes! But we sure had an amazing time putting it all together.
